Helmet

I can roll over!Easton finally got his helmet last Thursday. It took about 2 and a half hours for the doctor to make the necessary adjustments so that there weren’t any parts of his head that were receiving too much pressure. It hugs the left side of the head to discourage any growth and there is space on the right side of the head to encourage growth. It is still pretty tricky trying to get it on perfectly. When I’m home alone I usually put him in his exersaucer or prop him in the recliner, but it helps to have someone hold him while someone else slides it on. We are having a hard time putting it on correctly because it has a tendency to slide one direction and cover his right ear. We have to take it off every time we feed him (that’s when he does his stretches) and for bath time, so we are getting a lot of practice putting it on and taking it off. Luckily it hasn’t stopped him from rolling over. He can still do it but the helmet often slides out of place and has to be adjusted when he’s done. Easton is tolerating it well. He had a few rough naps and his first night with it was a disaster but other than that it’s life as usual for him.
Easton has been going to physical therapy for four weeks now and has received good reports every time. Today Elissa said that he is doing so well that we could start coming every other week if we wanted to. I am electing to keep things as they are right now because little man is still getting used to his helmet and I want to make sure he still makes good progress with it on. Plus, I am off work so I would rather fit in as many sessions as we can now before I have to go back to school. He was initially approved for 8 sessions, we have attended 5 so far, and Elissa will re-evaluate him soon to determine if we need to get his pediatrician to approve more. She also told us that we may be able to cut down on some at-home therapy pretty soon. All good news.
